As for the reading in the NES textbook, I found the information on how to create, edit, interpret and understand different forms of media in daily activity to be very valuable.  I think it is very important for students to learn how to interpret or “read” all forms of media.  This is a skill that will help students to thrive in todays society that revolves around media and new technology, this is pivotal in a multitude of careers.  As a teacher, one is constantly using multimedia platforms throughout the day for educational purposes.  I know that in careers all over the United States media is not only a key component in running the company, but the company could even be founded on this specific media source.  All over the U.S. today media is used as a tool in some way or another in every single career.  I am a barista at Wake Up Call, and even at a coffee shop I am constantly learning and using all sorts of media on a daily basis.  As a teacher it is so important to help students learn tools that are pivotal in the society we live in today.  I found the information in the text to be valuable and educational in this process of becoming a teacher.

“The standards also lay out a vision of what it means to be a literate person who is prepared for success in the 21st century.” (Common Core State Standards).  I kept reading this over and over and over again and it just didn’t sit right with me.  I really don’t like how this was stated on the website.  Does this imply that the previous standards (before Common Core) did not properly prepare individuals to be literate or prepared for success?  I did not have common core standards until middle school or high school, does this mean that I am not completely literate or prepared for success?  I found this last sentence so insulting, especially as the last sentence on the page.  However, despite this one off-putting sentence, this webpage did offer some insight as to what the goals and ideas of what common core curriculum would like to achieve.
